JBCC Certification Requirements

Below are the JBCC instructions for submitting your new certification, submitting your renewed certification, obtaining your criminal history, certification expiration and JBCC certification fees.

Effective September 1, 2018, the JBCC will no longer accept paper applications.  All applications must be submitted ONLINE using the JBCC Certification, Registration & Licensing System.

In order to become a NEW certified Process Server, you must:
  1. Complete a civil process service educational course approved by the Commission (and no more than) one year of filing your Process Server Application. Upon completion of the course, the course director should supply you with a certificate of completion. Process Servers Network is an approved course.
  2. Submit the Application for NEW Certification - You must apply for renewal certification via the online licensing and certification system.  To apply online, Click Here!
  3. Pay the NEW Certification Fee - The appropriate fee must accompany the application to be certified to serve civil process for a two (2) year period. Click Here!
  4. Pass a Criminal History Background Check with DPS and the FBI -JBCC staff will email the required form needed to schedule your fingerprinting appointment to applicants who have not yet been fingerprinted for the JBCC, after the JBCC has received your application and fee. In order to RENEW as a certified Process Server, you must:
  1. Continuing Education Requirement - Effective 4-12-18, renewing process servers must document that they have completed 8 hours of continuing education hours during their certification period.  Upon completion of the course, the course director should supply you with a certificate of completion.
  2. Submit the Application for Renewal of Certification - You must apply for renewal certification via the online licensing and certification system.  Submit applications at least 30 days before your expiration date to avoid delays in processing your application.  To apply online, Click Here!
  3. Pay the Renewal Certification Fee - The appropriate fee must accompany the application to be certified to serve civil process for a two (2) year period. Click Here!
  4. Pass a Criminal History Background Check with DPS and the FBI -New criminal history reports are required when you apply for renewal.  You do not need to have your fingerprints taken again once you have been fingerprinted for purposes of process server certification under the JBCC.  Upon receipt of your application and payment, staff will request a new criminal history report and the results will be sent directly to the commission. Expiration:  Your approval to serve process will expire two (2) years after the last day of the month of certification and, upon expiration, unless renewed, your name will be removed from the JBCC online system.

Fees:   

First time Applicants:               $200.00 

Timely Renewals:                     $200.00

Late Renewals:

Expired 90 days or less:           $300.00

Expired 91 days to 1 year:       $400.00

If your certification is not renewed within 1 year of expiration, you will be required to meet the requirements for a new certification.
